# Cluster breakouts of influenza continue to rise in South African as more patients require hospitalisation. According to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases, influenza-like illness and pneumonia cases have been reported since August 2021. The NICD says the majority of the breakouts are in schools and workplaces. NICD epidemiologist Sibongile Walaza says people with underlying conditions and who are immunocompromised should seek medical attention if they have any signs of influenza:
