# Iceland, one of the countries that still hunt whales commercially, along with Norway and Japan, plans to end whaling from 2024 as demand dwindles. This was declared by the country’s government. The minister for the Environment and Natural Resources and a member of the left Green party, Svandis Svavarsdóttir, told the Morgunblaðið newspaper there are few justifications to authorise the whale hunt beyond 2024. She explained quotas expire in that year and there is little proof that there is any further economic advantage to the activity.
