# Offenders who sell certain ivory products in Hong Kong now face a fine of 20-million-rand or ten years in prison if arrested and convicted in a local court. A spokesman for the Chinese region’s Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department says the government was committed to the protection of endangered species, including elephants, by policing the ban on ivory products. The new legislation and implementation thereof this year is described as the culmination of a three-year process to eliminate the ivory trade in the city.
