# World Health Organisation head Tedros Ghebreyesus, is optimistic about the success of South Africa’s development of a global mRNA vaccine technology transfer hub. mRNA, or Messenger RNA vaccines, use a genetic code to illicit an immune response in people inoculated with the Covid-19 jab. Ghebreyesus visited vaccine research sites in Cape Town yesterday. He says South Africa has the scientific prowess to help boost vaccine production capabilities in low to middle income countries.
