# Gun Free South Africa has urged government to implement stricter controls on legal firearms, citing them as the primary source of illegal guns. This call comes in response to Police minister Bheki Cele’s quarterly crime statistics, revealing that 34 people were shot dead daily in the period under review. Gun Free South Africa’s director Adèle Kirsten emphasises the need for the tabling of the Firearms Control Amendment Bill in Parliament. The organisation also advocates for the full functionality of the Central Firearms Registry to comprehensively track every firearm owned.
