# Gauteng Veterinary Services warned all livestock farmers of the possibility of a Rift Valley Fever outbreak. A spokesperson says the disease can be brought forth by the heavy rainfall across South Africa. He warned the illness can cause abortions and deaths, particularly among young livestock. The services urged farmers to vaccinate their animals against the mosquito-borne illness. Animals should also be kept away from low-lying wet areas between dusk and dawn. Farming communities are encouraged to wear protective clothing when handling dead animals and foetuses.
