Furniture removal companies agree to R40-million penalty for cartel involvement

# Furniture removal companies, Stuttafords Van Lines and Pickfords Removals South Africa have admitted to involvement in a furniture removal cartel and agreed to pay a combined 40-million-rand penalty. The settlement, confirmed by the Competition Tribunal, concludes all complaints, investigations, and prosecutions against the companies. The cartel involved collusive tendering, submitting artificially high bids for furniture removal services from 2007 to at least 2012. As part of the settlement, Stuttafords and Pickfords will refrain from future cartel conduct and implement a competition law compliance programme.
