# An economist says that president Cyril Ramaphosa highlighted various issues around unemployment in his State of the Nation Address but he did not spell out clear labour strategies for combatting youth unemployment. Derek Yu from the Department of Economics at the University of the Western Cape, says long-term plans must be put in place for this group as it is already hard for them to find a first job, never mind having a possible career. Yu pointed out that vaccination rates are also dropping and this presents a problem:
