# President Cyril Ramaphosa says South Africa cannot achieve a dynamic, competitive, fast-growing economy, without both a strong and capable developmental state and an inclusive, fast-growing private sector. In his weekly newsletter, he notes the debate about the relative roles of the state and business in pursuing economic growth and job creation, and whether they go hand-in-hand. The private sector employs some three-quarters of South Africa’s workers. Ramaphosa says alongside a capable and developmental state, the country, therefore, needs a thriving private sector that is investing in productive capacity.
