CSIR launches Africa’s first CO₂ supercritical encapsulation facility

# The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research has launched Africa’s first carbon-dioxide supercritical encapsulation facility with clean, solvent-free technology. The pilot-scale facility enables high-value bio-based ingredient production for pharmaceuticals, agriculture, food, and cosmetics, supporting small, medium, and micro enterprises and local innovation. Commissioned with 25.9-million-rand from the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation, the facility seeks to strengthen South Africa’s bio-economy, and allows industrial validation. It also positions the country among a select group of nations advancing sustainable, high-precision encapsulation technologies.
