# After 50 years in business and annual retail sales of more than 90-billion-rand last year, the creators of Hello Kitty has revealed she is not a cat after all. The Japanese company that made the iconic character says she’s actually a little girl. She lives in an unnamed London suburb with her parents and a twin sister Mimmy. She has her own cat, and also a boyfriend called Daniel. Hello Kitty was created in 1974 and first appeared on a children’s coin purse in Japan. She is now one of the most recognisable characters in pop culture.
