# The Western Cape High Court has set aside the referral of alleged Parliament arsonist Zandile Mafe to Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital. The 49-year-old had challenged Cape Town magistrate Zamekile Mbalo’s decision to refer him for 30 days’ observation. This followed a report which stated Mafe had been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. Western Cape judge president John Hlophe found Mafe’s referral to the hospital as unlawful. He has ordered that he be taken out of the hospital today and moved to Pollsmoor prision. Mafe’s bail application will be heard on Saturday.
