# City Power says it has taken note of syndicates that are running their own unlawful transmission and distribution networks in informal settlements across the metro. According to reports, these organised criminals steal cables and transformers and then provide illegal electricity connections at a fee. City Power’s spokesperson, Isaac Mangena, says informal settlement dwellers who benefit from these illegal connections pay up to one-thousand-rand, depending on usage:
