City of Cape Town receives donation of seal stretchers

# The City of Cape Town has received a donation of ten seal stretchers to help with the handling of large seal carcasses along the coastline. The stretchers will also be used for rescuing dolphins and other sea creatures. A few thousand seals wash up dead each year, especially after pupping season. Deputy mayor Eddie Andrews says the seal population in Cape Town is primarily found at Duiker Island, where it varies between seven- and eight-thousand at any given time, and approximately 20-thousand at Seal Island.
