City of Cape Town condemns fatal shooting of security contractors in Philippi

# City of Cape Town has condemned the fatal shooting of two security guards by local extortionists. The security guards were escorting City of Cape Town staff attending to a sewer pipe repair in Philippi’s Phola Park community. Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has announced a 100-thousand-rand reward for information leading to the capture and prosecution of the perpetrators. Hill-Lewis expressed concern over criminal attacks affecting various City services in parts of Philippi, including the Kosovo informal settlement where a stormwater upgrading project is ongoing. He urged Philippi residents to report criminal activity.
