Cape Town plans to add 40,000 inner-city residents by 2040

# The City of Cape Town’s new Local Spatial Development Framework sets out plans to accommodate about 40-thousand more residents in a greener, pedestrian-friendly inner city by 2040. The framework, which is currently open for public comment, states that property in the inner city is unaffordable for 90-percent of Cape Town households who need accommodation. To meet the challenge of increased supply and affordability, the plan says policy responses should target economic growth and increased employment to boost household income.
