# The City of Cape Town is formally engaging with the National Department of Tourism to gain clarity on the deployment of its tourism safety monitors in Cape Town and other travel hubs across the country. This comes after Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille announced in August that 174,5-million-rand had been budgeted to train and employ over two-thousand-200 young people as tourism monitors in this financial year. However, the department now says the monitors will only be ready to hit the streets by 15 December when the visitor season is already well under way.
