# Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Blade Nzimande, says the Language Policy Framework for Higher Education Institutions in South Africa affirms all the country’s languages. This follows the DA’s complaint to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation. The party wants the government to recognise Afrikaans and the Khoi, San, and Nama languages as fully-fledged indigenous South African languages. Ministry spokesperson Ishmael Mnisi says the framework primarily seeks to promote the development of historically underdeveloped African languages:
