# Australia’s military has revealed an active criminal investigation into an incident in Afghanistan nine years ago, in which an Australian commando platoon was involved. The Department of Defense was referring to the alleged killing of an Afghan prisoner by Australian soldiers because there wasn’t space for him in an American helicopter. A year ago, ABC News reported about the allegations made by a US marine, which was denied by the platoon’s former commander, Heston Russell. The department isn’t prepared to release audio recordings about the incident, saying this may jeopardise the investigation.
