# The African Transformation Movement is calling on Public Works minister Dean McPherson to expropriate abandoned and hijacked buildings in urban areas. ATM leader Vuyo Zungula cited the need to address crime and urban decay and suggested the repurposing of these spaces into affordable housing, student accommodation, and small business hubs. He also pointed out NSFAS’s 40-million-rand rent debt, and suggested the buildings could ease the student housing crisis. Zungula says the move would reduce government rental costs.
