# The DA’s Francois du Rand has been ousted as mayor of Swellendam in the Western Cape following a motion of no confidence during a special council meeting. The motion, supported by the ANC and Freedom Front Plus, cited Du Rand’s failure to implement council decisions, mishandling of misconduct allegations, and alleged involvement in a bribery scandal. According to News24, Du Rand allegedly offered an ANC councillor 1.5-million-rand to resign and failed to address tender irregularities. A new mayor will be elected next Tuesday.
