# An American was executed for the murder of a toddler in 2001. David Renteria kidnapped five-year-old Alexandra Flores from a mall while the family were doing Christmas shopping. He strangled her, and her burnt body was found in an alley the next day. Renteria asked the family for forgiveness before he entered the death chamber, saying he was sorry for all the wrongs he had done. He was given a lethal injection after the US Supreme Court declined two separate defence requests for a stay hours before his execution.
