Agriculture Department to inspect terbufos manufacturers amid food poisoning crisis

# The Department of Agriculture will inspect all five registered terbufos manufacturers to ensure compliance and distinguish locally produced chemicals from illegal imports. This follows at least 22 deaths linked to chemical poisoning from food. Agriculture minister John Steenhuisen suspects cross-border imports, pending lab results. Nationwide cleanup campaigns are underway, with biosecurity prioritised to prevent harmful products’ entry into South Africa. The minister says the efforts aim to address gaps in supply chain security and ensure public safety.
