# The South African Union of Students is calling for a special police unit to tackle gender-based violence at tertiary institutions. This comes after a Cape Peninsula University of Technology student was stabbed at a student accommodation in Belhar by her partner. The 26-year-old woman is currently in a critical condition at the Tygerberg Hospital. Police have confirmed that the 30-year-old male student was arrested and is under police guard in hospital. The student union says statistics show GBV cases at tertiary institutions need serious intervention.
