# Tax Justice South Africa has welcomed commitments to intensify the fight against the country’s illicit cigarette trade. Tax Justice founder, Yusuf Abramjee told Parliament’s Health Portfolio Committee, a sweeping enforcement plan to rebuild capacity and impose tougher penalties on offenders was outlined by SARS Commissioner Edward Kieswetter. He says police also stressed a need for minimum sentences to deter the criminal syndicates behind the trade:
