# India’s government has proposed new rules requiring artificial intelligence and social media platforms to clearly label AI-generated content to combat deepfakes and misinformation. The draft mandates AI visuals to display labels on at least ten-percent of the image or duration, to ensure traceability and transparency. Platforms like OpenAI, Google, Meta, and X (formerly twitter) will also need user declarations confirming whether uploads are AI-made. With nearly a billion internet users, authorities say the measures aim to prevent manipulation, impersonation, and election-related misinformation.
