# The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union says it rejects in the strongest terms the notion of using violence as a tool of correction at correctional facilities. POPCRU spokesperson, Richard Mamabolo says this after the minister of Correctional Services Pieter Groenewald called for the reintroduction of corporal punishment in the correctional centres. He says the proposal is not only unconstitutional, but dangerous, reckless, and a direct violation of human rights and international correctional standards:
