44 candidates reviewed for vacant deputy Public Protector position

# Parliament is reviewing 44 candidates for the vacant deputy Public Protector position, left open since Kholeka Gcaleka’s promotion to Public Protector in November. The public is invited to comment on applicants, many of whom are reapplying. Gcaleka, the only deputy to ascend to Public Protector, served less than four years, with one as acting. The president appoints the deputy for a potential seven-year term, extendable. The annual salary for the position is 1.9-million-rand. Screening of shortlisted candidates will occur after public input.
