1907 law making adultery illegal in New York is repealed

# A century-old law making adultery illegal in the US state of New York may finally be repealed. The law of 1907 carried a sentence of up to three months in jail. After only a few weeks, a married man and a 25-year-old woman were the first people arrested under the law after the man’s wife sued for divorce. NBC News reports only about 12 people have been charged since 1972, five of which has resulted in convictions. A bill is now being processed in the state’s legislature to annul the act.
